My art practice embodies the unique aspects of my Asian cultural background; Taiwanese, Chinese, and Japanese. Being aware of my background and identifying with those cultures shaped the concept of my artist practice and how I build my work. In realization that not many people have seen the phenomenon of each cultures’ unique identities, led me to the concept of capturing beauty through a series of narrative landscapes that are based upon an imagined reality. Through detailed illustrative paintings, drawings, and sculptures I intend to evoke, not only a different appreciation for those cultures, but also a sense of nostalgia to those who already relate and understand those cultures, by highlighting unique qualities and characteristics of each. In regard to my process, I am more interested in visual development of illustrations and stop motion films as a medium platform, which conceptually and stylistically alter my artistic practice.

My most recent paintings and sculptural works showcase that aspect of utilizing an imaginative lens and self-taken photographs from various locations, in Japan and China including my hometown located in Taiwan, to create fantasy like worlds and characters that aims to inform viewers of my cultural background.

Cuisine plays a major role in the development of my practice and body of work because cuisine, to me, is a universal language that viewers from any cultural background can relate, therefore by highlighting certain cuisines and creating fantasy-like landscapes and characters I am able to portray a sense of playfulness, while being informative to the viewers and appreciative of my culture. My work aims to challenge the viewer to look beyond a simple landscape, develop a hint of connection with those cultures, and lastly develop a new appreciation for foreign and diverse cultures.
