Manasi Gopisetty

In the hot summer days of my childhood, I would spend my time with my cousins by the pool. As the years went by, our days together became a rarity. One by one those childhood oases were filled. Places, where so many memories were created, began to slowly disappear, just like the memories I held onto for years.

Using old pictures, a distinct feeling, or an unforgettable scent, mixed with a variety of shapes, I create abstract acrylic paintings that distill my memories of these significant locations. After all, memories are altered every time they are recounted, fading like a photograph in the sun. Therefore, I take these special moments from my youth and address the distortion that occurs over time. My work is meant to capture these memories and protect them, if just for a moment, from the inevitable progression of time.
