Greg Chan

My work is informed by the aesthetics of minimalism and the sentiments of postmodernism. Negative space, centered subjects, and muted colors are evidence of my infatuation with minimalism. Taking inspiration from postmodernism, I try to account for every detail. In my piece, Venn Paradigm, I leave artifacts that hopefully force the viewer to contemplate their understanding of the world around them. Through gridded strips of painter’s tape, layers of paint, a compass, and a pencil an amalgamation of patterned layers is created. The viewer should find the same line or shape across the painting and make the connection between them, encouraging the synthesizing of seemingly unconnected ideas throughout daily life.
