Renee Boettner

My recent paintings are a reflection on my experience of living within a female body,  and the process of finding a fusion between the beauty and turmoil of womanhood. Conceptually, the inspiration is drawn from an introspective process rooted in the ongoing social conversation regarding female autonomy and reproductive rights. Through reflecting on my position within this discussion, I conceptually explore my relationship to the body as a vessel for beauty, pain and resilience.

Formally, I derive inspiration from the vibrant sensuality and simultaneously cumbersome nature of flesh, using abstraction as a vessel for deeper explorations of self. I aim to create a visual highway through a majorly monochromatic color palette, prompting the viewer to sink into the saturated surface of the canvas and become immersed in the space. Venturing to create works that engage with this artificial space, I find a fusion between reality and the intangible nature of emotionality.
