Owen Isachsen

I abstract images from nature to explore the emotions we experience as we encounter and interact with the natural world. Working across materials such as acrylic paint, foam, concrete, and resin, I focus on the beauty found in small, often overlooked moments in the environment.

Growing up a short walk away from the ocean has shaped my work and instilled a deep appreciation for nature’s rhythms. The interplay of light on water, the darkness below the surface, and the constantly shifting balance between permanence and impermanence of the ocean is infused in my work. Through different texture and color, I invite viewers to redefine and reconnect with the landscape around them.

There is a sense of truth that seems to exist beneath the surface in the natural world, hard to grasp and trace, yet always calling to us. When we look at a body of water, the reflection can feel more real than a mirror. In these moments, imperfection and distortion can reveal the most honest reflection of ourselves and our way of moving through the world.
