My art grows from the dreams I have at night and the ones that continue with me throughout the day—dreams of aliens and bugs. In my daydreams, I imagine a species of bug-like aliens exploring space, and through that journey, exploring themselves. Through my art, I think about ideas of humanity, wonder, and imagination by sending my characters on journeys of discovery, set in great expanses of space.
By focusing on alien species traveling far in space, I can reflect the unknowns of being human, feeling lost, and not knowing one's place in the world. I use an arts-and-crafts- inspired approach in my work to activate a sense of playfulness and childlike exploration. Reaching out to the curiosity and child in each and every one of us. My pieces often resemble the crafts made in childhood, with rough constructions, bright colors, and slightly askew proportions or inaccuracies.
I work across disciplines like painting, drawing, sculpture, using materials such as cardboard, papier-mache, and found materials. This approach emphasizes the freedom and creativity of crafting that we were allowed in our youth. When people view my art, I hope they smile or even laugh. I hope they think of all the wonders of being on this earth, of being human, and all the wonders of being far away, off in the stars
