Hallie Ellis

My work explores the tension between outward facades and inner turmoil. It brings together ideas of femininity, addiction, and the pressure to achieve perfection within young adult party culture. Through the use of vibrant colors and playful subject matter, I create visually appealing pieces that initially attract the viewer's attention.

However, on closer look, a deeper narrative emerges. A narrative about identity, and the weight of trying to fit into a world that is far from perfect. My work is a reflection of the constant battle between the curated self and hidden pain.

I examine the challenges of living in a generation driven by social media, where self-worth is measured against highlight reels, photoshopped bodies, and AI altered images. The happy colors and playful subject matter in my work are like a first impression or someone's curated instagram page. But as a viewer looks closer, the work begins to unravel, confronting the ideals of perfection and revealing that we are all flawed in some way shape or form.

Much of my work also pushes me toward personal growth and commit to change the flawed in some way shape or form. It reflects a shared human experience of projecting happiness to others while quietly enduring pain. By expressing these ideas in my work, I hope to connect with people and let them know they're not the only ones dealing with hidden struggles or hurt.
